Shaghayegh Tafreshi is a Toronto-based designer who founded her fashion brand in 2013 in Iran before moving to Canada in 2017. With her background in architecture, Tafreshi’s designs are modern mediums of expressions that explore an abstract method of storytelling of the human experience.
When discussing her work and background, Tafreshi explains, “I am one of those people who was born in a country with a very different culture. I love avant-garde garments to wear, but it is not acceptable in my culture. I always felt the beauty in this kind of style and I am really happy I have done what I really believe in for so many years.”
In her garments, she works to connect art, culture, geometric shapes, and nature with a modern touch for globally and environmentally-conscious consumers. Having participated in several runway shows in Canada since arriving in 2017, Tafreshi creates new designs every season with distinct features, silhouettes, and colour palettes that bring attention to her various interests and causes.
The Tafreshi has showcased her designs twice with Fashion Art Toronto during our official fashion weeks, including her collection “Aquatic” at the Ripley’s Aquarium for our virtual show in 2021, and in-person at our F/W 2022 show with her collection “Aviary”. Both collections were incredibly powerful, with a focus on the connection between the human experience and wildlife.
Not only have Shaghayegh Tafreshi garments been showcased on the runway, but also in a number of print features and on screen. In 2022, you could find her Seahorse Dress-Coat on Yaz Harris, the host of the reality TV dating show, Dating Unlocked, and on Nelly Furtado on the ABC’s of LIDO TV, in addition to a number of magazine features from BlogTO, The Globe and Mail, Cake Magazine, and many more.
While Shaghayegh Tafreshi’s designs have been showcased on Fashion Art Toronto’s runway in past seasons, this season you can find their designs in our on-site pop-up shop throughout the course of our S/S 2023 fashion week (April 27-30th). Buy your tickets here before they sell out!
